PATTON PARK

Public BBQ

Stopped at this practical little park during our outback drive - perfect for stretching legs and letting the kids burn off energy. The playground's decent with half under shade, essential given Broken Hill's heat. Two separate dog areas to choose from, though they get dusty and scorching by midday, so early morning visits work best. The real drawcard is Bell's Milk Bar across the road - grabbed brilliant milkshakes while the kids played. Clean modern toilets and BBQ facilities made it ideal for a quick lunch break. Fair warning: one dog area has prickles that'll hurt paws, and the neighbouring property's barking dog can be annoying. Still, with the fish and chip shop nearby serving excellent chips, it's a handy traveller's stop. Just don't expect lush greenery - this is proper outback practicality.
